    Web Duties

Please add or add comments or correct my syntax on what a Web Application Developer does. Here is what I do and would like some additional input so I can expand:

    Develop Web applications
Build Server side and client side software programs.
Design Web pages, graphics and images.

    Database design and development
Design Database schemas and develop database scripts such as SQL. Transfer one dimensional data (Excel) to multi dimensional data structures (Access, MySQL).

    System Engineering
Build Perl scripts to automate data transfers, process files and fetch information off Unix and Windows servers.

    Process Automation/Improvement
Build Software applications for Web Interfaces to automate tasks that are currently being done manually.

    Customer consulting
Advise customers on ways to improve their processes with Web enabled software. Provide guidance on their requirements.

I always considered "web design" and "web development" to be two
different areas of expertise. Web Design falls more into graphic arts, and
Web Development falls more into computer programming languages (coding).

Your term system engineer should probably be called software engineer instead. Here's how webopedia defines it:

A software engineer is a licensed professional engineer who is schooled and skilled in the application of engineering discipline to the creation of software. A software engineer is often confused with a programmer, but the two are vastly different disciplines. While a programmer creates the codes that make a program run, a software engineer creates the designs the programmer implements.

I agree, they are different areas, some people can be good at both but a lot have one area they are just a lot better at than the other.
