It doesnt at all... and shoot I cannot find the article that goes into great detail about it. BUt do a google search for it
Note: I do not test code. I just write it off the top of my head. There might be bugs in it! But if any thing I gave you the overall theory of what you need to accomplish. Also there are plenty of other ways to accomplish this same thing. I just gave one example of it. Other ways might be faster and more efficient.

Isn't adwords a "pay per click" scheme? So you get a small amount of cash when someone clicks an advert of another site on your site. If loads of people use your site, then there is a bigger chance you'd get more people clicking on the adverts on your site.

I've heard that for sites with 100+ people of traffic a day it can be a decent pay off but otherwise it doesn't do much. I'll probably give it a try though just to see.

I guarantee it will be worth it for you at 800 unqiues per day. It may not cover costs but it will certainly be a few bucks a month at least.

Yeah it'd be a good way of making a small amount of cash, but I don't like adverts much

Well at least with Google Ads they are tasteful and they don't have to appear on every page. You can style them as you like to suit your site and stuff too. Just plain text. I think I am going to try them eventually. Certainly beats a banner. Post your outcome with them. It is worth testing just to have a reliable source for info on this programme.

I get about 70-80 hits per day.

Since January 2005, I've made about $70.00 so far.

When it gets to $100, they mail out a check (so they say).

I'm hoping to get at least $100 per year, that will cover my
    site fees for one year.

It's also nice that the ad content is determined by the text content
on my site ... so people tend to click on the ads related to the information
they are seeing. Make sure you fill your site with good text content
related to the interests of your visitors.

It also depends on the content of your site. The ads they display will usually be somewhat related to the content of the site. If your content relates to ads that pay more per click then you can make enough to be worth it.

I had set up a database help forum for awhile and was making around $100/month with very little traffic. Of course then google accused me of trying to cheat them and canceled my account and kept my remaining balance.

That's rough man. Well I'll probably try it but not until I get a pretty good bit of content up.
