What are the best E-Commerce Solutions?

    Hi all,

I am a pretty experienced & front end developer that generally develops my own Content Management Systems, I dabble in Drupal and Wordpress by request here and there also.

I have recently taken on a role as web director and am spearheading the re-vamp of all of our companies websites. I have generally stayed away from E-commerce & Online store projects (Not sure why just preferred not to) and am curious what are the most reliable e-commerce solutions.

For example; the web page I will be implementing first is a hand coded, custom CMS HTML5 website utilizing javascript, php, sql, ajax and some legacy folders for downloads and updates. I am wondering what is a good e-commerce solution that is can be implemented that that I can ideally style to go with the brand of the website and most ideally not have to run off page (right now they have a website that brings you do a shopping cart off page to do online orders).

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

The only answer to that is "The one(s) that do whatever is needed, in a manner that suits the site owner"

Absolutely ANY catalogue, cart and payment system can be made to do what you suggest is required BUT the may not be suitable for the real use.

    eg:
Magento will cope admirably with all the above criteria, but if the site only sells TEN products, it will be total overkill, unwieldy to setup and unmanageable for the owner.

"Best" is subjective and depends on how it is going to be used not how it can be integrated into an existing site.

Thanks for the input. I actually was looking at magneto so that makes me feel good. We dont have all that many products (probably 10ish programs we sell and then upgrades. Some headsets and then seperate stores for usa, canada, french versions etc). Im thinking about iframing the store right into the layout so it has the theme around it I created as well.

    Thanks

For a few products you probably should look at Zen Cart or Cart Engine.

Both are easily customised and extended if your product base grows,
