How can I best see how my site is doing on Engines ?

What is the best way to do a search on related terms for my web site to see how it is coming up on search engines ? I believe that simply typing in related search terms into my usual Firefox browser that I use on a daily basis will not give me a realistic view ? Will using Firefox's 'Private Browsing' do the job ?

    Thanks for any advice.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. You want to know what sort of search terms will bring up your site in a Google search or similar?

No Linux. I want to get an idea of how my site is being ranked i.e. its position on the results pages when I type in relevant search terms.

Well that's going to be a bit difficult to answer. Each Search engine has thier own ways of optmizing search results and categorizing which result is the best fit, etc. So each one will give you different results.

You could also go to: Alexa - Actionable Analytics for the Web

And enter the name of your site there. They provide all sorts of analytics. What you're searching for could be in there.

First, add Google Analytics to your website. It has all the tools. If you lack some tools, add Webmaster Tools, also from Google.

To check your website rankings you can use any SERP (search engine position) tracker, there are many of them, some of them are free.

The easiest way to see the ranking of a website when you open it - simplest PR (page rank) plugin that you install in your browser, then open your website in the browser and check your PA, DA, Alexa - main ranking things.

    Hope it helps!

Every search engine have their own method to optimize site. You van use google web master tool for your site behaviour. You will also use Alexa rank that provide you information about your globla rank and how many sites are link on it.

Well There're many tools available to check the status of your website on the SERP. You can check it manually too by entering each and every keyword on different search engines.
