    Implementing a Professional Forum

    Greeting,

I am a college student and I have been meaning to propose to my institution the idea of developing a discussion forum like this one. I joined hoping someone would aid me. I am familiar with forums like ProBoards and Invisionfree/Zetaboards, but those are commercial forums. I assume that, as an independent institution, we must host our own discussion forum. Could someone assist me with some guidance?

How would we do this? How much would it cost? What else should we be considering? -Those are the kinds of questions I need answered.

    ~Thank you.

I did this with one and completed the basic install and skinning after some struggle and some tutorials. I ended up taking it down because i got like 7000 spam posts/threads within 7 days and the security settings didn't seem to help much.

Is there like a plugin library or some way of amping security to prevent that kind of bot traffic?

    Thanks,

    S

Which one? vbulletin or vanilla forums?

And yes, that's why forums like this have dozens of moderators that take down spam daily and constantly. If you don't like spam, then don't have a forum ... it's just the way it is.
