    E-Commerce Platforms For Free

I was just wondering what some of you use when a client needs an e-commerce site that needs to be a bit more upscale. And when I say "upscale", I mean something other than Paypal. I checked out Magento but I see they charge a monthly fee, so I was hoping for something else that either charged a reasonable, one-time flat fee to set up, or something that is free.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

From what I know, Magento is free as in “free beer”. They only charge a monthly fee if you have them host the software for you and provide technical support. If you download and install Magento on your own server you don’t have to pay anything (except your own hosting fees, of course).

That said, I’ve used PrestaShop in the past. It’s a little bit of a learning curve but I think it doesn’t get much better with other ones. Other popular e-commerce software are osCommerce, ZenCart, and OpenCart. You can compare these and a few others on http://www.opensourcecms.com/scripts...gory=eCommerce
