    Easy-to-setup search engine?

Hi, I'm new to the forums, so hopefully this is the right place to post this sort of question. I'm looking for a search engine solution that will run on Apache with Linux OS. Within next 12 months or so, the company is changing over to Windows OS for its servers. So, the solution must be compatible with both platforms. The search engine will be used for an Intranet, so it must be server-side. I'm looking for something like what StackOverflow.com has at the top of its page. It's just a small search box and then it brings up results based on number of key matches. Something along those lines...

I'm hoping I can find something that can accomplish that and at the same time fairly easy to setup. I'm doing this for someone else who's actually in charge of the Intranet but has very little time to look into search solutions. I'll be performing the test on Wampserver & Windows 8 (my home computer).

The reasons I want it to be simple to setup are: 1. I will be unable to have access to the servers once the actual setup of the search engine begins, since I'm not part of that team... so it has to be something that would be easy enough to explain/setup without me. 2. I don't have much experience in Web Development... it's been many years and things have changes ohhhh so much. I've been more focused on C++, Java, Assembly and Python, since that's my area of interest.

Do you guys have any suggestions for me?

Well, the most easily to set up search engine that comes to my mind right now would probably be Google’s Custom Search Engine. Of course that ease comes with a price, not in money but in the searches probably being tracked and analyzed by Google for further action (e. g. serving personalized ads or handing the search and browsing behavior over to the NSA).

If you are familiar with Java you could search for a JSP solution, perhaps there are premade scripts already (I can’t give you any hint there)? That requires special set-up of the servers, though, because JSP isn’t running natively on either Apache or IIS (but can be added as extension).

As I mentioned, it'll be used on Intranet... so it has to be server-side and independent of an outside service.
