    This is nothing to do with Javascript.

    All the code given in this post has been tested and is intended to address the question asked.
    Unless stated otherwise it is not just a demonstration.

    That looks like some template variable, as in Smarty. It could be anything, though, because Smarty isn’t the only program/framework that is using this kind of syntax. You have to be a little more elaborate.

    I think the original code is something like this:
    Code:
    <div class="mattblackmenu">
    <ul>
    <li><a href="http://www.dynamicdrive.com">Home</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.dynamicdrive.com/new.htm" rel="ddsubmenu1">DHTML</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.dynamicdrive.com/style/" rel="ddsubmenu2">CSS</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.dynamicdrive.com/forums/">Forums</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/" rel="ddsubmenu3">Web Tools</a></li>
    </ul>
    </div>
    But I do not know how to, maybe using php, do like that

    That still doesn’t help. What’s the system (CMS?) you are using? Show us your entire index.html. Where did you get that code?

    This is a variable assigned in whatever piece of web software you are using. You have to find where it is defined to see what it is. PhpBB uses similar syntax in their styles to keep php out of the style itself.

    Stephan all ready asked, but I will again. What exactly are you using?
    Thanks!
