Cms is a method of allowing people to affect content without actually accessing files. Usually related to a database of content. Custom web design is someone or several people creating a custom website for you ... may or may not utilize cms. It all depends on what your website is used for.

“CMS” is the abbreviation of “content management system” and that’s what it is. It has nothing to do with the design. A decent CMS can have any (custom) design you like.

Many business who need a website, or who have an old site and want to update their companies’ web presence, explore the concept of a “CMS” as an option to create and manage their site. The appeal of a CMS lies in its cost-effectiveness, and the potential that it can be managed by the business owner themselves instead of a web development team.

CMS stands for Content Management System. From a technical standpoint, a CMS is a web site that is easy to change and customize without necessarily having to write any HTML code or do any complex programming. Most CMS are based on a common PHP/MySQL setup, and have a large degree of basic web functionality built in. Even non-tech-savvy web users can handle most CMS and self-manage their site by adding pages, images, and pulling in ready-made widgets that add functionality to the site.

CMS has become very popular because it has brought many non-IT folks into the webmaster population, providing a low-cost way to get on a web with a blog site, business site, social network, or many other types of web experiences.

Open-source systems such as WordPress have become hugely popular, with many developers offering free templates and “plugins” that allow for greater customizations and functionality, without the user having to know anything about HTML code or web programming.

CMS has not only brought more people into web publishing, but has also created communities around the systems, where people can learn, trade ideas, provide support, and contribute to development of new functions and designs.
    CMS Advantages

    Low cost or free
    Easy for non-techies
    Community support
    Many free templates
