You don't need to know any CSS in order to be able to write JavaScript until such time as you want the JavaScript to interact with CSS in which case you need to know how to write the CSS you want it to interact with.

Don't forget to start your JavaScript code with "use strict"; which makes it easier to find errors in your code.

Also, “knowing CSS” isn’t any indicator of knowing how to create functional, usable, and beautiful websites. What I’m trying to say is: There is a smooth transition between knowing things and being able to do something good with them. So, you’re ready for JS whenever you know and understand the concepts and best practices of web design.
