    expert advice

I am a amateur php / html programmer but have a new business process to develop. Please review the guidelines for the project and suggest the proper coding / back end development route.

    • Secure member area
    • graphical scheduling app where users could assign predefined appointment types to time windows
    • 2nd user type which could book open time windows from bullet 2
    • comprehensive admin area to oversee all users and functionallity

I suppose the best way to describe this would be if you had an advertising member base (A) and a free-to-use base (B).
User A has a back end where they can manage their schedule and show open times for appointments.
User B can login to their free account and book the open appointments created by User B.

If this doesnt make sense please follow-up with some questions. If it does what would be the best platform(s) to develop such a system.

Key features would have to be scalability / usability / security.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

My first efforts would be to see if someone's already done this sort of thing and might sell their product to me.

If you do decide to get it built custom, you'll spend a lot of $$ on development. As for architecture, I'd recommend a PHP framework such as Codeignitor.

If I did want to get this custom built, who can I trust to do the work?

What credentials should I be looking for in the engineers?

Ask web designers for a portfolio. Programmers are less likely to have any demonstrable evidence of their talents, since it's hard to point to something and claim authorship; also, a website that functions beautifully may look terrible, because it's not all that common to find both a capable designer and a proficient coder all in the same bag of water.

(What movie is that from? Water bags... bags of water... some scifi flick I saw not long ago... grr that's bugging me now)

Anyway.... most times you end up trusting your gut instinct and taking a risk.

If its something to do with your computer then i would advise you took it to your nearest computer store to get it checkd out. Try turning your internet off and leaving it for 5 minuites, thats what i normally do. Hope this helps.
