"best practice page height" for above the fold

    Hi,
Are there any best practice dimensions that I could lean against if I want to build a site with lots of images that should look good on a 1024x768 monitor?

I am thinking about how much height space I have at my disposal for presenting image content "above the fold", and how all different browsers and tab bars take up different space at the top and for Windows XP/7 the taskbar at the bottom of the screen are of different thickness as well.

Are there best practice pixel dimensions for height?

    Thanks!

But you should take in account what your customers are. I went the othe day to my potential customer and said: Hey, look my site !

Huaaaa. IE6, everything hanged, and when it came up in a minute or two it was totoaly wrong displayed, like css hasn't even arive.

InstaledFF, and works as a charm, even that machine is from previous century doh.

No need to mention, the scren was 800x600, yeah, the 1% from above link.

Did anybody tell you that it’s at the user’s discretion as to how large they make their browser window (despite the fact that there are many different screen/monitor sizes and dimensions)? I, for example, are currently looking at a 1200×800 px monitor an I have about 631px vertical space for my viewport.

But anyway, the web developer toolbar for Firefox can give you some info on window and viewport size (under “Resize”).
