Thumbs up Need some help on small project

    Hi everyone,

Im hoping someone can help me out on this one.

I have a website and want to do the following:

On my sites product pages I want a small box displaying an image. the image would say:

In Stock or Low Stock Or Awaiting Stock.

So Is it possible to get something where I can change the image that is being displayed from a remote control panel?

I assume something could be use so I log into a back end system which lists all my products and each product has a drop down saying instock etc and I select the one i need and can save them and it will automatically change the image within the box on the individual product page.

I know its possible as a guy who used to work here did exactly the same thing but with a weather image for sunny, raing ing etc.

Any have any ideas or advice?

    regards

Where is the information for your products currently stored? Are they in a database or do you manually put in the products? If they are in the database do you have an in stock count in there or again is it done manually? If its the latter then you can just query the database to get the stock number use some if/else statements in the language that your site is written in.

    Hello,

It s just a xhtml website so has no back end systema nd no DB.

In terms of shopping cart we use Mals-E which is basically just like paypal buy now buttons but more advanced so there is no stock levels what so ever, so technically there is no databse for it to read from.

Becaus e of this I was just thinking of a script that every time i change the image in the back end it would edit the img source on the product page to show in stock out of stock etc.

    Hope im makin sense?

    an example is here:

    http://www.radioscilly. com

They have done the same with the weather image, they can log in and change the drop down box to rain and it will chage the site to a grey cloud with rain.

    Regards

Well you still need some way of keeping track what image goes where with what product. From the sounds of things though this may not be possible with Mal-E. You need something that is a little more customizable. I'm assuming you have to login to the Mal-E site in order to customize your store?

Ive made the site myself so its just a normal webpage, we are currently using a website that uses a back end system but the reason we are going away from it is that there is not enough control over it, and if we want something added atleast I can do it my self.

You can log into Mals-e website to customise the shipping etc and the look of the cart but its a remotely hosted shopping basket so a bit differnent.

I dont really want to have to change the image every time we run out of stock on a item via dreamweaver as its a pain in the butt

Can you think of anything that could work?

So your website's product catalog was _manually_ written in Dreamweaver? It doesn't read a database for the product information?

    No thats right.

The buy it now options at teh bottom of the product page just hold the infomration i put into the code and when the customer presses buy now it transfers them to a secure hosted shopping cart and then forwards them to Sagepay once they confirm.

I do it thi sway cos there is no restriction to what options i want in the cart etc, I control the info.

So i guess easiest thing to do is pretend its just a simple web page but i want to put a banner saying, in stock, low, stock or out of stock.

Hope this helps and thanks for taking the time to have a look

Then right now the only option you have is to edit it manually. Without the product data being stored any where and without you be able to control the data using an admin panel you don't have a choice. I mean you could make an admin section of your own that allows you to add/edit products to a database and then just loop through the database to get the results, however building this on your own will be really time consuming and it will be a very steep learning curve. You are better off just hiring someone.
