    site versions

I am debating whether or not to have two version for my website.

A "lite" version for those who do not want any loading time or have slower modems

and a "heavy" version for those with cable or those who do not mind waiting 1-3 seconds to load. I have a dropdown menu so they will not need to load a lot, but still have to load. Includes stuff like background and cool effects.

    What do you guys think?

As someone with a 56K modem, I know I'd appreciate something like this. To make it practical, you'd probably need to store a cookie with the visitor's preference.

yep. thinking of that myself for my own *possible* site. coz it isn't fair when u love to design that just because of slow modems u can't flaunt ur flair as much as u'd like.

well, some of you know I am a dhtml lover. You should have seen my very first website(well, about my 5th) I had like 45 of dynamicdrive's scripts on my site. It would blow u away. Nothing was static, eveyrthing would go boom and float around the screen. It had music and fading rollovers. Sounds and all. But, If u did not have a T2 connection, you had to leave it over night So, you guys approve of something like this? At another forum people told me it would look "unprofessional" basically But, I don't know. Any more comments than 2? :-)

oh...well yeah...that would probably look unprofessional unless u made it really really ... like...i dunno. i mean, all that stuff is really too much.
even if you really need to make things move everywhere (which wouldn't be very pleasant for the user), try to let only a *few* things move, subtly.
i don't personally think so much flash and so many frills can possibly look professional... u've got to keep a balance.

well... i don't know. i can't know unless i know how long ago that first (5th?) site was and how much u've improved since then, or how ur work looks now.
actually i'm not sure i get exactly what u're asking right now.
in my opinion no matter when or how anyone does all that, it isn't *likely* to look very professional...well maybe unless u can beat 2advanced.com (in dhtml? )
