    Critique my site II post attempt II

    Okey dokes, I've done an overhaul ..
    Now it's compliant with Xhtml 1.0 Strict near as I can tell without validating and without including the shoutbox which I need to make compliant..

    Excluding the shoutbox it's all done with CSS for the most part. I am however using tables, found it to hard to make it work on 800*600 and 1024*768 + using divs, and couldn't get it centered so I gave up and retreated to tables so brothercake don't give me a yellin' bout that unless you can show me how lol .

    Not sure what I just said exactly since my fingers are talking for me ..

    Nighty night. .. uh goodbye , ciao, tusch/aufwiedersan.. etc etc.

    The url: http://mhtml.ithium.net

    for everybodies information... the url is http://mhtml.ithium.net

    looks good to me... it needs verdana... verdana!... nice colour scheme, good logo... not really much else there to comment on

    nicely done

    edit:
    don't give me a yellin' bout that unless you can show me how lol
    heh... i had a quick bash at it...

    Code:
    <!-- get everything centred. -->
    <div align="center" style="border: 1px solid #444444; background-color: #E4ECF1">
       <!-- header bar -->
       <div style="background-image: url(http://mhtml.ithium.net/images/mithN__04.gif); background-repeat: repeat-x; text-align: left;" width="97%"><img alt="image" src="http://mhtml.ithium.net/images/mithN__02.gif" /></div>
       <!-- menu bar -->
       <div style="background-image: url(http://mhtml.ithium.net/images/mithN__08.gif);height: 28px;background-repeat: repeat-x; text-align: left;"><img alt="image" src="http://mhtml.ithium.net/images/mithN__08.gif" /></div>

      <br>
      <div style="width: 50%; float: left; font-family: verdana; font-size: 75%">
            <p>Some text... probably talking about complete nonsense as per usual.... but i feel that wouldnt be
    	fair... thus i shall make up something almost original, and perhaps the slightest bit interesting.</p>

    	<p>Bah... thats not gonna happen... so i'll just repeat something. something something
    	something something something something something something something something
    	something something something something something something something something
    	something something something something something something something something
    	something something something something something something something something
    	something something something something something something something something
    	something something something</p>

      </div>

      <div style="width: 100%; font-family: verdana; font-size: 75%">
        And the infamous shoutbox here, no doubt... hmm... i cant make the border look right, so i'll leave it
    	out so nobody knows... ah, too late...
      </div>

     <div style="clear: both"/>&amp;nbsp;</div><!-- this must be kept here or the borders & background will mess up in IE-->
    </div>
    there we go... thats the basic idea anyways... few things i couldnt be bothered to put in... like the background

    Alright - I ain't no coder -- but I am a designer.

    Your site looks good - the colors are a very corporate mellow and relaxing... however, I have my complaints:

    The menu bar is a little plain - the color similarity throws off users, and doesn't look as appealing... I would link it somehow to the grey top bar.

    Though the colors are nice and mellow, they don't tend to pop -- I'm not saying you need to make it a circus - but one other color contrast that is strong might be helpful... a blue or red that POPs more.

    The wire frame look you did with your portfolio is cool - and you could use some elements to eccentuate it (a theme that looks like a blueprint for instance)...

    enough of the rambles, my design recap is this:

    I think the horizontal structure rocks, and the grey is perfect tone.

    I think it needs a little more color, the logo should be more 'prominent', the links should stand out more, and add some extras.

    -- you did a great job, I don't want you to think that I'm bashing it. I really do think it looks great. But I would sit down and try to think of little additives that help users want to play on the site and make things more active.

    If you want, email me and I'll send you some other peoples sites that I've seen that add a little extra - however worthless - but it makes it more filled.

    If you want more specific ideas, just ask.

    Again, I'm a designer, not a coder, so I probably shouldn't be saying jack

    Well I forgot the url as redhead pointed out...lol I was waaay to tired so I must have forgotten it.

    You critiqued my business site, I'll take note of what you've said anyways because I'm thinking of overhauling that soon as well since I'm on holidays from school now.

    [edit:] Heck that's some pretty solid advice once I read it over again.. Got some ideas already!
    lol thanks

    Thanks redhead!

    lol, same here ... think I messed up the quote though *goes to get fellowship*.

    Formatting of text and "real" layout stuff will get done today, and hopefully I'll re-code most of my shoutbox to make it xhtml compliant.

    I'm off to get some light background emoticons now. Thanks ASAAKI!

    that's more like it yea the emoticons look better yellow. menu bar's nice. the whole color combo's nice.
    looking good ...
    except that the shoutbox is glued to the 'maintable' border i guess. shouldn't it move to the right a bit? but maybe u were already gonna do that today...

    Warning: mysql_num_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/mhtml/public_html/shout_shouts.php on line 26

    I am getting this message (in the blank space above the fields where I would enter in Name/Alias and Message) when I visit your site - even before I do anything.
    Listen! You smell that?

    I've fixed that, but I'm still trying to make it insert data into the database ... doesn't seem to want to do it ..

    Oh yeah and my site is no longer Xhtml 1.1 Strict ! I have decided that I'll start off html 4 and then move up the scale alternig page by page to get to xhtml again.
