private server requirements
What exactly happens when you switch to a private server? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to servers, and I don't want to have to deal with all the problems that come with it. Do I have to fix all the problems?

By private sever, do you mean Virtual Private Server or something else? See this link for the commonly used terms - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_hos...pes_of_hosting
If so, a VPS can range, depending on what the hosting company offers, from a preinstalled package with just a control panel for your access where the hosting company provides support, all the way to a raw Virtual server that you have root access to it where you are responsible for installing and maintaining all the software.
If you are learning PHP, developing PHP code, or debugging PHP code, do yourself a favor and check your web server log for errors and/or turn on full PHP error reporting in php.ini or in a .htaccess file to get PHP to help you.
