    Meta tags, rss, etc

What is a good way to bring up your ranking in search engine results?

Like if someone googled Charlottesville Videographer
mine would come up at the top.

I don't wish to use google adwords, rather something I can put in my code to help.

Content, content, content. Have all the important keywords in your content and you’re good. Plus, if the content is changing frequently, search robots will come more often to look at the site. That’s why search results about posts in CodingForums are online almost immediately.

    1. Use the google keyword tool to identify commonly searched for keywords that are relevant to your business.

    2. Take the top 2 or 3 generic keywords and incorporate these into the title tag of your homepage. Use local qualifiers, i.e. "Charlottesville", and whatever State that is in (don't try and target just "videographer", the competition will be too high).

    3. Take around 10 keywords, including the top 2 or 3 used in the title tag, and craft some decent content for your homepage using these keywords. Again use local qualifiers. Emphasise the top keywords with semantically correct heading tags. Aim for a minimum of 250 words per page.

    4. Turn the list of services on this page into a list of links to detail pages about each of your services. Repeat steps 1-3 for each of these pages.

    5. In each page of content you've created, go through and identify places where you can link to your other pages. E.g., if you talk about music effects on your voiceover page, hyperlink "music effects" to your music effects page. Try to use the keywords you identified in step 1 in your internal linking.

    6. Go through the rest of your site and make sure each page has a unique HTML title and meta description.

    7. Use the hcard microformat to put your address and contact details on each page in the site.

    8. Submit your business to Google Local.

    9. Submit your homepage to at least 5 web directories per day. Work your way through a list of free directories such as this one. Vary the details you use for each directory submission, but incorporate the keywords you identified in step 1 into the submissions.

    10. Create an XML sitemap, and sign up to Google Webmaster Tools, Yahoo Site Explorer and Microsoft Webmaster Tools. Submit your sitemap through each of these services.

You've forgotten the most important thing: your content is non-existant. You can't be found if there's nothing to find.

    +++ to Cyan

Its kind of like trying to find something on a map, its bloody difficult if the map only has the outline of the coast line to find Omaha Nebraska or to find Baetov Kirgisistan. Someone has to know exactly how to search to find something with almost no content.

Your background also cuts off on larger monitors.

Educated questions often get educated answers, and simple questions often get simple answers.
