    File Server??, Is it possible??

I am wanting to create a site that I can go to and access files from my home computer. I have tried the many products (PCanywhere, Logmein etc...) that offers remote file access but I wasn't really impressed. Apache worked good but it lacked a few details I wanted, maybe I didn't have it set right. I have also tried some other software (HTTP File Server) but they had issues too. Here is what I am wanting to do.

    - Have a site like Apache where I can browse through the folders
    - have a search feature so if I know the name of the file, but not which folder it is in I can find it faster.
    - Require Login to access files (Just me for now, but I may want to allow multiple users later)

My OS is Server 2003 R2, I know basic HTML but not all that good with other codes.

    Thanks

The multiple users thing is the tough part. You will need the app to be running on the system for something like this to work. I've liked net2go but I don't think they are free. One I did like was Orb: http://www.orb.com/

The program needs to be running for it to work. I do believe it allows multiple users. Been a while since I've used it.

Thanks, I have tried Orb before in the past and it was either my system or theirs but too often many files were not available. I was thinking I would be able to accomplish this using IIS, Visual web developer, or even Index server. I'm still not 100% sure these would solve the problem, but in my quest for answers these have came up in some results and since I already had the software not being used it would make sense. Honestly, Apache was great, It gave me all that I was looking for with the exception of the search feature. Maybe I need to look into that more.

    Smile Log Me in???...

I have set a number of my clients up with logmein and this basically gives them the ability to access the remote pc like they were in fromt of it.
You may need to play a bit and read some instructions, but nothing on the remote pc is ever not accessable, and you can copy and paste files from one to the other.

I use logmein on several computers. It is great for me to get on my computers when I am at work (which I do all the time). The only problem is the file manager does not come with the free version and my subscription is about to run out next month. Also if I want to allow a friend to access my files They would have to go thru my logmein account.

Since my last post I was able to use IIS to accomplish the main part of what I was wanting to do, that is to have a file directory like apache that I can access the files. I also used Index server to create a database of the files. I am still not able to get a search query from index server to my site, from what i been reading i need to have a script is ASP and the ability to have multiple user accounts has been put on hold till i get the search feature working..

    Thanks for your replies.
