    FTP programs

I've never used FTP software before. What do you recommend as a simple, free, usable FTP program?

for internet explorer and opera you cah use
    ftp://username:password@ipaddres/
    or
    ftp://username:password@domain.com/

after the ip address or domain you can specify a port in the fomation
    :portnumber
    e.g:80

No offense to anyone's preferences, but i have tried them all, and i can SURELY say...FlashFXP is by far the easiest, most capable ftp client software available.

Get a trial for free, or look on mirc for it.

In terms of paid FTP programs, I would say WS FTP Pro leads by a far stretch.

There is a trial over in www.ipswitch.com - you can download that and try it for yourselves.

Last night, I downloaded and installed ws_ftp LE, and it seems to work well. I tried uploading a number of pages to my site, and it took a while (because of all the seperate files), but it worked well. I had no trouble getting connected and seeing the process through. So I guess I'm happy with that. Are any of the other ftp programs noticeably faster when it comes to uploading files?

Not really - they all will be more or less the same, it all depends on your upload transfer capabilities, ie. if you have broadband or a measly 56K, as the programs must execute commands seperately.

in wsftp_le you can select multiple files or folders on one side of it by click on each file whist holding shift. Using this method you can tell it to transfer whole folder, if you transfer a folder it will be copied to the server in a folder with the same name.

using this method oy u can tell it to up load and go and do something else.

@scroots, yes it may do it all without your intervention, but each process is executed individually.
