    Question of semantics...

    Okay, this is a purely hypothetical situation. Let's say you had a customer who wanted nothing on their site but graphics and a tiny bit of descriptive text in the middle.

    In order for it to be recognized for what it is supposed to be about and get picked up by search engines, would something like this be appropriate? At the very least it does get the point across of what the company is all about.

    Don't laugh too hard please.
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    <style type="text/css">
    #content {
    	width:500px;
    	margin:0 auto;
    }
    h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, p {
    	display:inline;
    	font-size:12px;
    	font-weight:normal;
    }
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="content">
      <h1>The XYZ Packaging Company </h1>
      <p>offers paper products for all your packaging needs. </p>
      <h2>Cardboard boxes </h2>
      <p>are available in various sizes and shapes. We carry a full line of </p>
      <h3>stationary supplies </h3>
      <p>for your inter-office requirements. </p>
      <h4>Custom printed evelopes </h4>
      <p>are available on request. </p>
      <p>We are located on </p>
      <h5>Smith Street in Anyville City. </h5>
      <p>We look forward to supplying you for all your </p>
      <h6>business needs.</h6>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>
    As you can see, the output would simply be this:
    The XYZ Packaging Company offers paper products for all your packaging needs. Cardboard boxes are available in various sizes and shapes. We carry a full line of stationary supplies for your inter-office requirements. Custom printed evelopes are available on request. We are located on Smith Street in Anyville City. We look forward to supplying you for all your business needs.
    Appreciate any responses.

    ok until here.

    Code:
      <h2>Cardboard boxes </h2>
      <p>are available in various sizes and shapes. We carry a full line of </p>
      <h3>stationary supplies </h3>
      <p>for your inter-office requirements. </p>
      <h4>Custom printed evelopes </h4>
      <p>are available on request. </p>
    this is a list, in my opinion, of product

    Code:
      <p>We are located on </p>
      <h5>Smith Street in Anyville City. </h5>
      <p>We look forward to supplying you for all your </p>
      <h6>business needs.</h6>
    this are two paragraph, header have no meaning here.

    if your client have 100 visitors/day on the site and from this 3-5 of them become regular clients he/she could recover some cost with this site but that means that 100 clients must find his/her site on the net.
    I thing that this way you can convince your client,

    Anyway you can optimize the search for image since major search engine have special bots for that.

    best regards

    This line will be the most important thing on your website:

    <title>My Company - blah blah</title>

    Make is contain the company name, and be somewhat descriptive.

    Some search engines use this line for the text (on their link) to your site:

    <meta name="description" content="This is a good description of what our company does. About one paragraph of concise information." />

    Make some of the words in your title and description match words on your page.

    Thanks to both of you for your responses. I was just curious because I was looking at a site which had nothing but images and the navigational menu, along with one block of text. Couldn't see much sense in applying <h> tags to the menu...

    Like I said, just a hypothetical situation. I myself don't have any clients that I build websites for. Just come to these forums to gain knowledge.

    Again, thanks for the input.
