Any guidelines on a freelance hourly rate?

    Hey Hey,

I'm currently working, doing a bit of freelance work for a company, they supply a PSD web design to me and I'll code it up as accuratly as possible.

I've searched around the net for the rate i should charge for this work but havent found exactly what i need, just wondered if anyone has ever done this kind of thing?

most places seem to say anything from £20 - £80 for an actual full web design but as its just the coding would it be different?

    Regards

I would go it for coding about £35-50 an hour.

Depending on complexity of the code and which languages you use.

If you can get the main template pages developed in a couple of working days (i.e. 14 hours...) You get anything from £490-£750.

    Which is about right!

What Sutton says, I'd do around $400 or so for a complete page with around 3 sub-pages.

I do the exact same thing as you ...

The graphic designer sends me the PDF on what it should look like,
along with the images. I make the actual XHTML/CSS/PHP scripting.
I also make it so that they (their client, or them) can update the
content themselves. Once I'm done, I help with future maintenance,
if needed, but I'm out of the loop otherwise. I also require them to
subscribe to the webhost/domain with their own credit card.

I agree with the $400 (USD) fee. Even if it involves customizing WordPress
or Joomla. Your knowledge and expertise count for more than the hours
you spend. Coding (the actual hours doing it) varies too much to determine.

I use Task Coach to keep track of how long I work. I do charge hourly. How much depends on your skillset, whether or not you can code quickly or you can code well but not quickly or both.
