    Need intro to Joomla

Hi all, I've been asked to help out on my running club's website. I was thinking of looking into Joomla but I don't know anything about it. Can you recommend a good book or tutorial site? How do you use it? Or not?

This is something that a group of people need to use, and bear in mind most of them don't have programming experience or much graphics background, either. If I set this up, I won't be the only one managing it, so I'll need to turn around and teach what I learn to the non-geeks.

Have you checked the joomla site? It should have all you need. Look in the help section

Yeah, I looked at it briefly. My boss seems to think this might be something the company wants to do. Maybe. They don't know, but I was asked to look at it, and that's when I thought it would be good for my running club.

I like having books about stuff in addition to online tutorials; I guess I'm old fashioned. I was hoping someone was using Joomla and just give me their opinion about it.

I use Joomla, and I recommend it. It can work well for a business IF you are willing to put the time and effort into setting it up properly and willing to get to know its details. It takes time to really get Joomla, regardless of having a tutorial or not, but when I started I definitely did plenty of reading up too. I found a few things

    http://www.joomlatutorials.com/
    http://www.salyris.com/joomla_tutorial_center.html

This ought to give you a good set of things to start with!
