    SEO good practices

    Hey guys,

I was curious as to how to get your website listed on Google with so many details as many websites do and I don't think they pay anything or do anything special, I suspect it has something to do with Google's local lsiting service.

Just look up coding forums, Modx or CNN and you will see that it displays some quick links to the main pages of their sites.

    Any help?

I forgot what those links are called, but it's nothing special. Sites get them when they have lots of content.

Here's a view things to raise you're placement on google.
    • Have a relevant Title
    • use META tages, desc., keywords
    • link your rss if you have one with the LINK tag
    • use Header tags, you SHOULD ALWAYS have a H1 tag in every page. H1 is for the page title of the page, H2 use for subsections and h3 for subsub sections so on and so on
    • Make sure you're content is visible from site readers or Text browsers. Yes flash sites can be pretty, but a googlebot can not read what's inside flash.
    • DO NOT have repetitive content.
    • For Sitelinks make sure you have the same main navigation on every page.
    • Keep your markup free from errors and your design should flow you're content so it's easy to read and find.
    • DO NOT use "click here" links, make sure you have links that have valuable keywords to your site. This is probably one of the most important SEO concepts.

Over the past few years, search engines are not giving much importance to HEADER tags. These tags were exploited so frequently, that search engines do not give them priority while ranking your website.

Although it could help to improve navigation structure, but one should make sure not to overstuff H1 tags with keywords.

Are you mixing up meta tags with H1?

Meta tags were exploited in the past and now, google 'reads' your page to see what the actual content is. Loads more to SEO than that but it might be useful to clarify what you meant.
