    Creating Multiplayer Games

I am interested in creating a text based multiplayer game. I know a limited amount of html(enough to create a simple website) but I don't know any other languages. I have heard that PHP and java would be good scripts to learn for this. Would this work? Also if there is any sort of website that has a good tutorial for a beginner to understand or a book that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

The basics that you would need would be a client side language (almost invariably javascript) in synchronization with a server-side script, which would store info in a database.

I would probably chose Javascript & AJAX, php, and a mySql database. Also, you should learn CSS, as it is an invaluable resource. The actual choice of languages is up to you. You could look in to several, and see what they are good for. That much is possible just by googling "php tutorial", etc.

AJAX isn't a language btw, it is a programming technique.

But yeah, you'll need a database (like mysql) and a server side language (like php) as binaryWeapon said.
