Why the 'rows' and 'columns' attributes are still kept with textarea?

    Hi all,
Just wondering, why these attributes are necessary(to validate) even though it's easy(and cross browser friendly) to apply the width and height of a textarea via CSS?

    best regards,

i guess if they removed these as valid attributes then older websites that are not going to be updated are left with a little problem.

    best regards,
because not all user agents understand css,
semantic means really semantic, not only model separate and presentation.

    lynx don't know css,

    best regards
