Smile Some general advise and pointers for setting up a virtual pet sim game?

    Hello

I hope the title is not misleading or too vague, but I would just like to know if anyone can advise me on the subject of building a virtual pet sim game. I'd just like to know what kind of hosting and scripts I would need to research in order to learn more.

I'd like to have a web-based game, that works off web-pages and not a client with flash or anything like that. Something like mystable.co.uk or equination.net for examples.

The basic premise is that players create accounts and can acquire, sell, and compete with whatever pets they have. The pets have health, happiness, fitness levels to maintain as well.

I'm thinking of something simpler than the above mentioned games and on a smaller scale, but any information about the sorts of codes that make these games "automated" - Pets age, their health can be affected by certain actions by the player, they can gain levels etc.

Obviously I am totally ignorant of where to start so I apologise that this is quite vague, like I say, if you could be so kind as to describe the sorts of hosting and scripts that would be suitable I would be really grateful, thank you.

If you have truly no experience of web development, then you're far, far better off hiring someone to do this for you.

Yes, and I really don't mean to waste anyone's time. It would just be helpful if someone could give me some feedback on my questions specifically. I do realise that proffessional programmers are available and offer a great service and that many of these games work that way, I just wanted someone to specify whether they are based, for instance, mainly in Javascript or whatever.

This is for my own interest as I have some experience in site building, and a basic appreciation for some sorts of programming. It is purely for personal interest that I wanted to follow this up.

Thank you anyway for your suggestion.

I would think that they would use a server side language. Which one they actually use may vary, but PHP and ASP.NET are the major ones out there.
