Thumbs up Want music on my page, Embed Winamp? others?

I am new at site building. However, I am doing elementary HTML now. Ive embedded links and associated those links to phrases like Click here or for more information. What are my choices to get sound as soon as you enter a site. I like winamp but I see other players on many pages Ive gone to. Can you pick a song per day beforehand. How does that work? Does the song play endlessly. Suppose another page has an embedded U tube video, does the song end when u exit the page and click play on the you tube player?
    KIndly advise
    Thank you
Also as I see this is about website critique, please feel free to visit my page
WWW.guitar-galaxy.net and tell me here what you think and whats gota go
    Thanks again

I can't give you much advice about this; it's something I avoid. Embedding music into your site is a sometimes a dangerous thing to do, especially if you do it the wrong way. Make sure that the user CAN TURN IT OFF. If it's a song he/she doesn't like, give them the control to stop it.

AVOID MAKING IT START WHEN THE PAGE LOADS. This can be annoying as well. Make the controls for the player clearly visible, and easy to use.

As for using WinAmp, I've seen it done. I've also seen Windows Media Player, and, the most common, Quicktime player. Whatever you do, don't put one of those things that say "What format would you like your music in, Quicktime, WinAmp, or Windows Media Player." The user honestly doesn't care. I know I don't. The safest format to use would probably be Quicktime. It's pretty common. Some poeple don't have winamp, and Mac users wouldn't have Win Media Player.

About getting a different song every day, it's most certainly possible. I just don't know how to do it!

Hope I helped! By the way, I didn't make this stuff up. I read up on online articles on all kinds of web design stuff, and that's how I learned all the "Good web practice, bad web practice" things. You might try doing the same sometime!

I disagree that including music on your site is a dangerous thing - there are times when it is appropriate - a guitar related site being one of them. But I agree with avoiding having the music start automatically - it should be the user's choice.

I'd suggest looking at JW mp3 Player. It is a Flash player that will play mp3's. That site also have a video player available.

    Hence the 'sometimes' . . .

I wasn't taking pot shots at your comment, didn't mean it to sound that way. My point was simply that IMO decisions such as including music on a site need to be made on a context-appropriate basis. If the site warrants music, by all means include it (properly), if not then it's better left off.

I've used the JW mp3 player - it's very nice. I found it from a post here on the forums (from _Aerospace_Eng_ IIRC).
