    Music To Code To

What do you listen to when you code?

For me, it's mostly metal or Peter Gabriel. Sometimes both.

Any music uninteresting enough so you don't get distracted by the lyrics.

I usually just leave Winamp running randomly through my entire music collection when I'm working. Either that or I'll put on some TV show or movie as background noise.

Usually some rock, rap or hip-hop. I usually don't care.
    PHP Code:
    $hello file_get_contents('hello.txt'); echo $hello
    hello

Possibly. On the other hand, I never specified the language the rock music is in (mostly Japanese).
    PHP Code:
    $hello file_get_contents('hello.txt'); echo $hello
    hello

I have my player(s) on shuffle all the time until they hit a pocket of cool stuff.

But when listening I get less done when something from Gomez, Drive by Truckers or Old 97's comes on.

I seem to get real productive when things like Combichrist, Assemblage 23 or OhGr etc... come on.

I was streaming Digital Gunfire at work and then they asked me to stop.

Personally I like to use The Music Genome Project to cod to, you can find this at:

    http://pandora.com/

Basically you choose a favorite artist, songs, etc and the program will begin playing songs based on the artist you chose. As you go along you can rate weather or not you like a particular song and the program will customize itself to your music style. Its pretty sweet.

I can't really code while listening to music. I usually stop coding to just enjoy the music
I'm not sure if this was any help, but I hope it didn't make you stupider.

Experience is something you get just after you really need it.

I usually listen to some metal or rock like System of a Down, Tool, Pantera, or Trivium. But I listen to a lot of other stuff and I have found that "When I Come Around" by Green Day is a great song to code to, that or "Soulfly IV" by Soulfly.
