    Sweet

... I still prefer Mozilla though

I take no responsibility for the above nonsense.

The usage trend is nice, so far. Have a look at <http://www.onestat.com/html/aboutus_pressbox34.html> - moz has a total market share of 7.35% (up from 2.1% in May this year.) Ie has slipped 5% since the May measurement and represents 88.90%.

    Forget Gecko...

Well, since many of you here have been enthusiastically promoting Firefox, I decided to finally download the thing to see what it was worth.
It wouldn't install ("unspecified error"). Mozilla quit working shortly thereafter, crashing my PC in the process. That's it. The software is either unsecure or otherwise flawed; whatever, it's gone.

codegoboom: That sounds like a software conflict problem. There's probably a reason for it to happen, because in most cases, Firefox installation works like a charm. The typical areas that cause problems are: User access rights, locked files, files in use by other programs when you try to read them, trying to install over an old installation, trying to use older Netscape plugins (though if they work in Mozilla they should work in Firefox), firewalls and antivirus programs, and unfortunate interactions, often related to the first three issues.

There is a reason they want you to shut down other programs while running an installer (this goes for all installers), and there is a reason Mozilla doesn't want you to share profiles between major pre-production releases, as well as with other Gecko based software. Try closing down most of your programs, , make sure you have administrator rights, install it, the first time you start it use the profile manager (use the '-profilemanager' parameter when starting it), and make sure you create a new profile. Then see if it doesn't run without problems.

Sure, I'd follow your advice, but it's no different than said attempt.
That's ok, I'm probably better off not fiddling w/ a conflict-prone app, ATM (or ever).

Oh, just convert already. It's inevitable, you will be one of them.

We all will be one of them.

I think you're jumping to conclusions. I would suggest removing any mozilla related files from your profile.
go to start > run > type: %appdata%
now look for the mozilla folder and backup the bookmarks or anything else located inside, then delete the folder.. now you should be able to start fresh with Firefox or Mozilla.

Jumping to conclusions, you think... well, anything's possible, although I didn't intend to be the first one testing an installer against my type of system configuration. Apparently I was. So be it; that won't be happening again!

OK, a quick note. I installed Firefox, then 7-Zip on my system. Now, when I try to install Mozilla Thunderbird, I get a window with title 7-Zip, and message "Unspecified Error"

So, I'm having your trouble and it's easily traceable to another installed app. What does the titlebar of the error window say? I still haven't figured out the problem (I found this forum by googling for a solution).

    So poopy.

thegnu: Is it a zip install of Thinderbird or an installer build?

I have installed this web browser on the work computer and really liked it...
