We're not in Google anymore, Toto.

    So where are we?

Hmm, I still get the regular Google website. And even without the fade-in stuff (i. e. everything visibe). May be that this is only visible in the U.S.?

But anyway, since we have 1st April, I have an interesting story from the major news cast of the major state network in Germany: All IP addresses are used up. ICANN closing down root servers. (in German).

For those not understanding the German language, basically it says that all possible IP adresses from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255 have been used up now, and earlier than the experts expected, due to high demand coming from China lately. And vendors of hardware failed to update to IPv6 in timely manner because of responsibility disputes so that’s why the complete internet is being shut down by ICANN on Friday for at least 24 hours, to upgrade to IPv6.

The drawback: Only computers with operating systems being capable to handle IPv6 will be accessible via the internet then, this means users of Windows Vista and 7 and Mac OS 10.6.2. Older OSs such as Windows XP will stay offline!

Phew… who invented this freaking day?

This page had a decent slideshow of most of Google's 2010 pranks:

The jokes were funny to begin with. You know, big corporation with a sense of humour. But now it's all a little ... flat. The little jokes are just that - very little and sort of "why bother?" - feeling a little too much like cheap publicity stunts than actual real jokes these days.
