I don't seem to be able to Delete posts anymore

I frequently accidently post something (overusing the <tab> button, not rereading carefully enough etc).

I used to be able to delete these posts, but i now get this 'you are not allowed to etc' page. Did i got punished for something or is noone able to delete his own posts anymore ? And why ?

    Anyone knows ?

    Yeah your being punished.

Actually George changed it so you can't delete threads or posts anymore. There was some guy that posted a few times and started some threads and then later went through and deleted them. I forget which mod noticed it and mentioned it in the ultra-secret moderator forum. I'm not sure exactly what happened, all I know is the permissions were changed like a week ago.

I would have to say it was spookster who noticed it and I would also say that it was somebody named AudioWebs who went through and deleted all of his posts. It was on the thread I started "Sueing music sharers" or whatever I titled it and he went through and tried to act like he knew what he was talking about. After he got proved wrong many times he disapeared.....again, these are assumptions....

    Pretty good assumption.

Actually though I hadn't brought it up due to that particular event. I have been noticing other useful threads disappearing becuase some members would get the answers they were looking for then delete their thread. If people need a thread removed now they can contact the moderator for that particular forum or one of the super mods or WA if they can't find anybody else.

    Hi:
As mentioned, I've temporarily disabled members' ability to delete a thread (that he/she started) or posts. I can see how this can become a negative thing, however, when members accidently post something "useless" or redundant and can get rid of it without relying on a mod, so I'm open to feedback on this issue.

    The options are:

    1) Allow deleting of a member's own thread and posts (past setup)
    2) Disable deleting of an entire thread, but allow deleting of individual posts by a member.
    2) Disable both in 2) (current set up).

In my opinion I would not allow members to delete their threads or posts.

The thread can contain useful and in-depth posts by other members that those members might use later on and go back to from time to time to remember what they said or to copy and paste parts of what they typed in another related thread.

Allowing members to delete their own posts could make for some awkward sounding threads if posts come up missing and then people only see parts of a conversation. Like maybe somebody posted a long and in-depth answer but then the person who asked the question deletes their post. Then we have an answer but no longer know what the question was.

I can understand making a post or thread and making a mistake and wanting to delete it themselves. I think however it is not too much trouble to just notify a mod or admin to delete something for them.

Actually, according to chapter 19, section 4, paragraph 27, "If a moderator ever allows the existance of the moderator forum, you must deny the existance of the afore mentioned forum."

But post deletion is sessional isn't it - as long as your session hasn't timed out you can delete a post you just made, can't you?
