    Approval by moderators

    Just wanted to clarify, I only joined today and posted couple of posts, but each time it takes few hours for my posts to get approved? In other words they don't appear straight away, and only in few hours. I was wondering if this is normal for everyone, or is this because I'm posting something that requires approval? I posted some html code as you would, and also couple of screenshots to illustrate the problem, the screenshots are hosted on my flickr account.

    probably is a browser, proxy problem on your side, have nothing to do with coding forums. The posts apear instant on cf starting with first post and moderators doesn't approve or not your posts.

    Cheers oesxyl, I am behind the proxy actually (the university network).. Though I'm almost sure after I pressed submit button the next page which appeared was a message something along the lines of "Thank you your post has been submitted and will appear after it is approved by a moderator".

    Now I'm thinking maybe it indeed has to do with images which i included in the post, because this my post appeared straight away, but the one which I posted in the css section about my problem is still not there, and its been 2 or 3 hours already since i posted it.

    maybe i'm wrong, i'm not so sure now.

    as far as i see you have three posts in html/css forums
    based on your answers in the threads and if i suppose you don't see one of them, this must be with problems:

    Header width

    That's right, but in that thread which you linked I only see two of my posts - but it should be three, the third one with included code and screenshots.

    That's weird! I haven't noticed this before on other forums.. I'll try emptying the cache and cookies maybe it'll help. Thanks!

    Actually, posts made by new users (<5 posts) may be automatically put into moderation queue if it contains certain keywords popular with spammers. In this case a mod has to manually approve it before it shows up. This is just a feature used to catch spammers on CF.

    I have discovered (and discussed internally) that the spam keyword filter has a few flaws where it would wrongly pick up certain partial strings even though they aren’t related to spam. So that’s what could have happened. Also, mentioning things like “iPhone” or similar could trigger the filter since there is numerous spam promoting things related to that.

    Yeah, unfortunately its not perfect. Spam bots are getting smarter too which doesn't help.
    I'll tell you this much though, I fairly regularly go through the moderation queue (although right now I have no home PC again so its a little tricky :|), and I guarantee that its worth having the moderation queue in affect. For every legitimate post, I remove 10 spam posts. These are ones that are not even seen, and don't count the ones that are.
    PHP Code:
    header('HTTP/1.1 420 Enhance Your Calm');

    I am really pleased to hear that! But I find that on a typical day I still report 1-2 spam posts. And what about those who post 20-30 times? Should there not be some block on posting more than (say) 5 times in an hour?

    If you think what gets through is bad, you should see what doesn't.
