what happens when i report a post?

i hit the "report this post" button on a post where the author was referring to women as "hoes" which is the same as "whores", which i find objectionable.

i haven't recieved any response, so i was wondering what actually happens when you report a post. does it go to a mod? do they generally respond to the person who reported the post?

    another issue also:
do the mods read the posts occasionally, or do they generally take action (like removing a link) after someone has complained? i'm wondering because there was an adult link in a post, and when i asked the poster to remove it, all i got was personal insults.

    thanks

Reporting a thread sends a message to moderators' and admins' email address. You can also pm the moderator of the forum if you are really offended, which may or may not produce faster results.

I read all the messages in my own forum. The reason for that is that it's so small (which is why I asked for a transfer from JavaScript Programming Help into XML -- JSPH was getting too big for me to personally handle). I would be mildly surprised if a moderator didn't read all the messages in their own forum. (But I don't expect jkd, a super-mod, to read every message on every forum. Ditto George, aka WA, as the admin.)

I read all of my e-mail too (except for the spam, which gets deleted sight-unseen and -undownloaded, thank you web-based e-mail). I just myself discovered what the "Notify moderator" link does, having received one of those e-mails the other day. In that case, George had beaten me to the thread and handled it more diplomatically than I would have.

We moderators also have a private "Conference Room" forum that I follow closely. If one moderator spots a problematic thread, we can notify each other through this forum.

I left a comment. Maybe he'll listen to a supermoderator or something - you are entirely correct in your stance though.

    thank you!!!!

also, another reason to not post adult links is that a lot of us are using our computers on the company lan (like i am right now), and trying to explain to my director that i "accidentaly" surfed porn!

That's an excellent point. Another reason why we'll be more vigilant in removing any adult related links on CF in the future. Please do report a post if you stumble across one.
