Turn off the 30min logout function

I understand you have bills to pay.. but dear god... i leave for 20-30mins and i get logged out of the site.... all because the admins want/need to show more advertising.

Seriously, cut it out and let people stay logged in for longer. If you REALLLLLY need to show some advertising then do it but kill the stupid video that auto-plays at the top of the forum.

Looks like i just need to get an anti-advertising addon for my browser.

    Hello,

You can click on the "Remember me" checkbox that's at the right of the login and you'll stay logged in until you actually click on logout.

Yup I've just been logged out today again too - and yes, I'd logged in using the remember me function a few days back.

Whatever you guys keep doing, it's annoying your users.
I can't really think of anything to write here now...

Same just happened to me - I agree it is very annoying and must stop.

I was logged out today, too. But I suppose this is because of a software upgrade? At least I see the default vBulletin favicon in the browser tab, that’s why I figured that could be the case.

    Yes that's correct.

Let's wait if it's fixed tomorrow. I'll check a new setting so we don't get kicked out after 30 minutes.

While we have your attention... If we create an issue tracking thread (idk maybe lock it and only mods can add to it and we email them or something) will you address those issues? I know some of the other threads addressing bugs explode into fluff-complaints, but if we had an organized one could they be remedied? Currently I only really know of the

tag issue with string formatting. I am sure we could get a structured list.

Yes that sounds like the plan we had in mind.

I'll create a thread that's read only for users but post allowed for mods/admins, and we could grab the consolidated and verified issues from this forum and make a list to fix on that locked thread.

But yeah, ckeditor allows lists, and if it didn't we'll find a way.

Just so you know, I'm here, and will not go anywhere, if I'm slow to reply (pretty sure I'll be working on some urgent tasks) or something needs an immediate attention feel free to send me a PM and I'll get to it as soon as I can.

    Just doing that now.

I noticed that the "Remember Me" checkbox had been unchecked. I just figured they are using cookies and when they restarted the server all the cookies were invalidated. I know with ASP the main session cookie is just an encrypted counter. If the decrypted counter is not in the expected range, then all the session stuff is invalidated. Dunno how PHP works, but surely something similar. So it doesn't surprise me and barely annoys me that I have to logout, check the checkbox, and then login again. And then I'm fine until next server restart.

"email the mods". How? I know we can PM them, but email them??? Why would they give out their email addresses?

I might be wrong but as far as i know, me and perhaps vinyl_junkie are the only remaining mods that are online fairly regularly.

    Hello,
The remember me it's checked, you mean you're seeing it unchecked?

Also, at vBulletin works in a similar way to what you've listed. We don't do server restarts unless there's a hardware failure, most of the *nix servers are pretty reliable these days, so that scenario wouldn't happen, at least not soon.

In any case I agree it's an annoying bug, but it's fixed now, not only because the remember me option, but also because a few issues within the vB install were fixed.

About the mods email, they'll not have to disclose or share their email. I'm speaking about me, being available to receive private messages for further issues. It would be the same as emailing me anyways, since I'll receive an instant email.
