Unhappy NOT to be a pain in the arse... STILL blocked at IP level

I still seem to be blocked at the IP address level, as are most people I know who I point at this site. I have to use a proxy to get at it, as locally, well... the tracert says it all.

    Code:

A few people I've asked from different geological locations report the same problem whilst others do not. ANY idea what this is? It's interesting that it's not just limited to me... That it's been mentioned in two threads and multiple PM's without even so much as a response seems almost shady... hinky even...

I mean, have you gone overboard on the settings of something like fail2ban or something? That the server isn't even being nice enough to respond to requests doesn't bode well, as that's a firewall level block -- IPTables territory.

It seems like you have to be a pain in the arse in order to get the arses of the owners of this site moving. User xelawho contacted me with this, too. Unfortunately any admin that could do anything about it seems to be unavailable for some reason. I’m just as frustrated as you.

And you can add me to that list. I am now at my local library to get on this forum. Not at all pleased with this.

Add me to the list too! I have been blocked from the site for several weeks. Can only access through a proxy server.
To save time, lets just assume I am never wrong.

You are using DEPRECATED code that will not work at all in the latest version of Php. You need to use PDO with prepared statements or Mysqli "for ease of transition".

I can't access it from work (works okay from home now that my phone line has been repaired - line at home was completely dead for two days so I have only just been able to get access to the forum again).

If it helps my work connection got blocked mid post at 5pm Thursday ADST.

I got blocked a few days ago, also after my dsl was down and I would have had a new ip when visiting the site, when making a post. Got a dialog to continue and lose work or stay on the page.

This is IP + browser name specific. I was able to log in using a browser I normally don't use and was able to post. Deleting cookies didn't have an affect. Once I was able to reset my router to get a new IP, I was able to use the normal browser.

Since this seems to be happening, for members that regularly visit the site and while posting replies, I'm guessing it could be something being served by the site, making requests back to the site, that triggers some misguided, automatic, ip lockout. Perhaps even the auto-save for the edit form or even some initial condition problem, where visiting the site with a different ip from a previous visit trips up what ever code is doing this.

After the initial lockout, this hasn't reoccurred (fingers crossed.)
If you are learning PHP, developing PHP code, or debugging PHP code, do yourself a favor and check your web server log for errors and/or turn on full PHP error reporting in php.ini or in a .htaccess file to get PHP to help you.

Neither Chrome or Opera would allow me access from work so I don't think its browser specific.

I have the same problem, having to use a proxy just to post this. Everything was fine until I tried to post a new thread and then it just timed out and I wasn't able to access the site. Then when I got a new IP I tried again to post and it did the same and I've been locked out ever since.

I think they actually don't want users.

Well, the owner of this site is a company called MAS Media which – by their apparently equally poorly maintained website – is primarly interested in accumulating ad revenue from the sites they own. So, by plain market logic they should be eager to have active communities.
On the other hand they are very reluctant to provide any means of communicating with them which makes me wonder what their motivation is, actually (especially given that they probably paid a five figure amount of money (I’m guessing here) to buy out this once thriving site from the previous owner – and it has been a downward path ever since).

The only way to get a direct contact is by finding out the contact data through a WHOIS lookup. Perhaps someone of you who is in the USA could even call that guy and ask what’s up?

Please bear with us. we are trying to fix this. We are making adjustments to the firewall. Previously we had some other sites being attacked.

Please post you IP so if will help trouble shoot the issues.

    Thank you for your patience.

Do you think you could remove the "Announcement: Happy New Year! " from the top area? The year is 4 months old, 25% of it's life is over. It's almost voting age in the U.S.

Well, my IP is right there in the tracert. Anyone qualified to fix this should know what a tracert is and how to read one... but....

0 posts asking for IP addresses? Phishing much? Sorry if I consider that spam bait and likely NOT anyone ACTUALLY involved in running the site, but it is a might bit suspicious! I mean only joined in February, listed as 0 posts, search only shows one post... and we're supposed to believe this is someone working on the site who should actually be allowed to have IP addresses?!?

    BRAVO FOXTROT SIERRA!!!

... and if it IS in fact legitimate (which I doubt) that's an even bigger whiskey tango foxtrot! Doesnae speak well of things.

deathshadow, you’re new here, so you don’t quite know the common practices here (or at MAS Media) yet. Ever since they took over the forum a new administrator was assigned by the company every so often. So it’s quite likely that this user is in fact a legitimate administrator working for MAS Media to fix the most imminent issues, only to disappear again after a few weeks or months. Even the last admin, BThunderW, appears to have quit, despite him seeming to be different (i. e. slightly more motivated) from the ones before. I was right with my initial scepticism, though.

Well, add me to the list. Works fine from home but I can't get on at work. :/

    /* Updated */

Seems to be possibly related to quick replies. I've had 2 different proxies get banned. Both, were banned right after a long hang when trying to post a quick reply and then it times out. I've found that using the advanced reply seems to get around this problem.
