    Flash differs from local testing to its published view

    I have created a little flash element with that sits within a fireworks table.
    I created the table for a page header and navigation and exported a slice into flash to work on a search field. The search input field is a button symbol with text input field. I apliied the following action script to the field...

    on (keyPress "<Enter>") {
    getURL ("php/search.php", "", "GET");
    }

    When i test this locally it works fine. When i publish it however the flash element appears but without the text input field ?

    Why is this, any ideas ?

    Nope no ideas. We aren't psychic. Without any code or a link there really is no way to help you.

    Your .rar file is corrupt.

    Thats about par for me today. I think my computer has a gremlin. It is now working fine in IE... refreshing the page did not show updates... i had to empty internet history before it would work. Sorry Aerospace Eng too little sleep the past few days.
    Incidently, why do i require the .fla as well as the .swf ? With other flash things i have done i have never required them to be uploaded to the same folder to work.

    Its not that the flash file needing the fla file its that its easier to view the fla file, particularly the actionscript for me. Hmm its a bit hard to see your search box. It blends in with the header.

    Thats the problem i have been having. You could see the text 'Search' but not the actual search field. It is working for me now and there is a white box behind clearly marking out the search field area...
    The only action script contained was

    on (keyPress "<Enter>") {
    getURL ("php/search.php", "", "GET");
    }

    This is attached to the text inputbox which is a button symbol. All this works fine and on enter submits its variable to the search.php. Its just confusing to me that the search filed within the flash would not appear until i had uploaded the search.fla as well as the search.swf... and know it appears it is not working for you either. Its odd
    You can get the unzipped .fla here
    search.fla

    Hmm try exporting the swf as Flash 7 rather than Flash 8. I'm going to guess that you use Firefox. Currently I have the flash plugin for Version 7 of flash. Since the swf was exported using version 8 format it doesn't display the search box. I just updated my flash plugin for Firefox and I now see the search box.

    Ahhhh,
    I suppose it would be best to keep it at an earlier version to ensure compatability. There is nothing about it that requires it to be version eight. And version eight is relatively new therefore not as many people with the new plugin.
    Thanks Aerospace Eng
