Correct mime type for delivering JSON

A friend of mine is having difficulty with a JSON file, it's not being consumed properly by his app.

Unfortunately I don't know much more at this point other than it's not making it's way back correctly, but I was thinking it could be because of the mime type. I think the app tries to download the file rather than consume it as JSON.

I'm waiting on a response for:

    1) can it be hit ok in the browser
    2) what do the headers say
    3) what is the behaviour when the browser hits it

Will update with details as I get them. Any advice appreciated.

if it's being fed to a <script src=> tag, the mime should not matter. with ajax, the mime should not matter. with jQuery, it MAY matter, depending on the method used to fetch the url.
