    Random Color Generator: Art Idea

Before I say anything I feel the need to say that I have zero experience with javascript or even know if its what I need to do this. But, I have a great idea and I have a feeling someone on here can help guide me in the right direction.. and if I am in the wrong thread please let me know.

So I thought of this idea to make an installation piece which requires lights changing completely randomly. The same color is allowed to repeat so there doesn't need to be an infinite sequence of numbers/colors. I'm wondering what I need to get/do in order to make this happen (I realize learning code, which can be a long process, is involved). I realize that there is also a completely different process once I get the coding done. If anyone has any experience with putting code on a circuit board or being able to run the lights from a computer please let me know..

there's plenty of arduino instructables floating around with step-by-step instructions on controlling lighting with them.
