    Self updating program help

I am trying to work out how to get a program to check if there is an update available for that program, in Vb.net

One idea I have is for when the program loads, go to a text file on my server, and in that text file, I will have a variable with the value, say 2.0, the program would check its value, which is 1.9, and then I want the program to go and get the latest version, which is specified in the text file.

Any help? I am unsure on how to go to web addresses, and read text files using .NET

    Cheers

I've built programs with this sort of functionality. Basically you want to open a connection to the server, request the file with the info and parse it. From that file you can get the url or whatever you need to download the new file. I've done it using HTTP protocol because it's easy to request files from an existing web server.

You'll have to search the net for examples on how to do this with .NET, perhaps you can use the MFC CHttpConnection APIs?
