# Thread: Maths behind calorie converting

1. ## Maths behind calorie converting

I'm making a Android app and I want to add in some simple calorie converting.

Does anyone know the rough maths behind it? E.g Running for x minutes burns x calories, Cycling for x minutes burns x calories etc...

2. The ratios are different for almost every activity. Plus, this is not a coding question, this is a calorie//activity question. I'd suggest asking elsewhere.

Hopefully this should help you friend.
My source is this: http://fitnowtraining.com/2012/01/fo...lories-burned/

Men use the following formula:

Calories Burned = [(Age x 0.2017) + (Weight x 0.09036) + (Heart Rate x 0.6309) -- 55.0969] x Time / 4.184.

Women use the following formula:

Calories Burned = [(Age x 0.074) -- (Weight x 0.05741) + (Heart Rate x 0.4472) -- 20.4022] x Time / 4.184.

______

I guess this would be roughly accurate, using the average heart rate when doing that particular exercise.
Good luck :-)
