Advice needed on potential project
Firstly, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to be posting this. I'm not looking for someone to do the work for me, I'm just looking for a way to flesh out an idea I've just had and was really hoping someone here could lend a hand. Thanks a million if you find the time to provide an answer for this!!
Basically, the company I work for does everything on spreadsheets but I'd like to get some stuff done programmatically if possible.
Firstly, we're a window fitting company and we have A LOT of business. This all needs to be organised. The company is very small, so the program only needs to work on a small network. I'd like to have a program that stores all of our ongoing jobs and allows individuals to edit and save changes so others can see. It needs to be something that we can all access easily and change.
It would list all of our current work, allowing us to update the progress. Can anyone suggest anything from this admittedly vague post? I just need to get on the first rung of the ladder and I'll figure everything else out for myself, so I'd like to know what language I should be using and how I can make the computers over the network interact with the program and save data.

Well, you could just not mess about with programming and use Dropbox with a folder hierarchy.
Basically, you'd have this program Dropbox. It's like file storage. You can put files and folders in it, and allow people you know access to it. Now, you could have two folders.
Completed/Processed Work and Ongoing/UnProcessed Work. You'd be able to see when they were last modified/keep a text file in there for people to write down when they modify a file. Since this gives access to the people you'd want, they'd all see it.
Does this sound like what you want, or I am not close enough/Did not understand?Time kills us in our sleep and we watch it happen in our dreams. -K.K.
