I am a 50 year old guy that has worked the same Job for the past 28 years. My job has nothing to do with coding or programing, and I plan to continue working my job until I retire. So I am just wanting to learn coding / programing for a hobby. My biggest hurdle is I was many years ago a GED (Good Enough Diploma) graduate, so I am not near as smart as the most of you here are, and my attention span is not what it was before.
I want it to be fun and engaging for me to learn. For example i learned to use Gimp and Inkscape and Scribus all through video tutorials and that was great fun. Learning from a text book environment is something I was never able to do.
I do not know what programing language I want to learn, mainly because I don't have a clue what they are used for. I don't want to do website design, I would rather learn to... Ha I don't even know, hopefully you can help me decide where to start.
I have read this forum for a day or so and have seen it said a few times, for the new programer starting out it is a good idea to start with C++ or C#, this may very well be true, but if it is difficult to learn I will more that likely quit before I give myself a fair chance to learn.
So I am hoping to hear some guidance in the way of what will be interactively engaging for me to start off my journey so my interest is bringing me back to the keyboard to learn more because it is getting fun. So for me the order of learning should be easiest and funnest first and then onto other languages once I get my head wrapped around what programing is all about. Some have suggested on here to learn C++ at w3school.com, well I went there and couldn't even find the course, so I am asking that the people nice enough to reply to this post consider my learning ability and attention span and help me find a good interactive or video visual learning platform that will get me going in the right direction.
I hope to learn a lot from this point on and get to know many of you via this forum environment.
Thanks in advance for any guidance and have a Great Day.
