A little question on how to go about somthing.

Hi all, I had a quick question I was wondering if someone could answer:

I am creating a website, and I have a database I want to transfer to couple different tables inside the website. The document I have the information in is a .txt document, but it can be changed into XML, PHP whatever. The thing is, I have a certain syntax for the items (for example: ID,Name,Description,Weight,Price, etc) there are many of them, and I was wondering if there is anyway that in the HTML i could simply call for a tag like: [id1] and it would get the information from the XML,TXT,etc, file. Or if not, how would I go about programming somthing to do that which would run under the website? Thanks for all your help!

Does the content of your database change much, or often, and how?

Do you want to show the whole database (suitably presented) in a single web page, or do you want the user to select parts of the database for viewing? And updating?

Is the web server Unix/Apache or Windows/IIS, or something else?

What software is available on the server? Specifically does it support server-side scripting in PHP or ASP.NET etc.? Does it have database software such as SQL Server or MySQL?

The database is going to be viewable on different pages, certain items for certain pages, but all in different databases, like for ex: the page for cloth items will be kept on one page, and under one database document, another is for paper, and with another database document. It is hosted on a windows server, and right now i have the databases in .txt files and in the syntax order i want, seperated by commas for ex:

    ID,Name,Wight,Color,Price,PicDir

And there are like 40 items per page. =) It does have SQL but is there anything else?

It would be an easy task to convert your product details into static web pages (HTML) so that users can view the product details.

It would get far more complex if your product line changes frequently, or you want to take customer orders. Then you would have to look into using ASP.NET or ASP for building dynamic pages from a SQL Server database, and for storing orders in the database.
