I was wondering if anyone had a (non geek speek) explanation for Embedded Linux?
Basically I am looking for work ATM, and this job is local to me. But I was wondering what this 'embedded linux' is? It keeps cropping up.

To develop, test and prove software for existing and new products in accordance with the programmes set out by the Product Engineering Manager. The postholder will be responsible for all aspects of software development for new product development projects and improvement to existing products, from overall design, detailed coding, and documentation within the constraints of the agreed project plan.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in engineering or similar numeric discipline and have 3 years academic or industry experience involving coding in C/C++, with at least 1 year of experience coding for Embedded Linux or Linux Device Drivers. Also essential is knowledge of Real-time programming and knowledge of the embedded Linux.
