    DVD Rip/Burn

I have quite a few things on my computer that I want to keep, but not on my computer. They are all mostly videos of anime I have downloaded and I want to burn them to a DVD so I can watch them later, or whenever. I know this is where things get sticky:

I want to watch them in any DVD player I happen to have at the time and some sort of chapter thing, like an episode is one chapter...is this even possible? So I have some reasonably priced burners, but I don't know what is "good" or "bad". Any suggestions (I would need an external one).

I alos have some things I would like "rip" from DVDs and put on my computer [I don't need a lecture on copywrighted things, I bought the DVDs I just want them for a project I am doing on my computer]. Any suggestions?

    DVD Burner: Light-on Lightscribe, $32 - link

As for the rest, I recommend reading through a site like VideoHelp.com. There is just oo much to cover in an article like this... Doom9 is another awesome website....

Burning? I use Nero. Other useful apps include SmartRipper, VirtualDub, GordianKnot, AnyDvd, DVDCopy 4, etc....

You might want to look through some of the guides on the Maximum PC site...

Thanks for the sites, they did help with some things...

So I got on NewEgg and did some shopping, looking for something withing my budget, the pros and cons all differ from really good to horrible. Heres what I found:

I want to create my own DVDs, but I cannot afford the software needed to convert video files to DVD format, or the software needed to actually CREATE the DVD.

Is there any FREE software on the Internet anyone could recommend? I don't want any poxy free trials which leave stinking watermarks on your video, I want a free-to-get full version, with all the features.

I know some months ago my dad burned a couple DVD's with my current computer, and I also know he did it without buying any software at all. So I was looking at the installed software on my computer and found these 4:

-Click to DVD - I think this one comes with Sony computers only, but I'm not sure. I belive this one will allow you to convert those anime videos into DVD format, but it will all depend on the type of media that the anime is on.
-123 Copy - 3 steps to copy a DVD, sounds easy.
-CDBurnerXP Pro 3 Freeware. - I opened it and it looked simple enough.
-Sonic Record Now- Not sure if this will do DVD's, I know it does CD's.

I hope any of those actually help's you.

Well, I found my Nero install CD, so thats the burning sorted.

Click to DVD - It only comes with Sony VAIOs.
123 Copy - It's not in my price range (FREE)
CDBurnerXP Pro Freeware. Looks good. Downloaded it.
Sonic Record Now - FIFTY QUID? No thanks!

I just need conversion software to make all the .VOB files and stuff.

Instead of making a new thread (maybe I should've?) I'll just post to this one:

Ok, so I found some internal ones withing my price range on NewEgg (never thought to look for internal ones for my laptop), but now I have a problem:

I have one spot on my laptop for a cd/dvd drive, so whatever I get, it needs to be a CD/DVD read and writer, but I don't know how to read all these specs and everything, nor does Dell's website help me about combatability...so do any of you know?

I am looking at this one:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827131022

I assume it is Laptop combatable, it looks to be, anyway, I get confused cause the title looks like DVD/CD writable, but below it doesn't, so what is it?

Also, is it combatible with a Dell Inspiron 1200? (I've changed nothing in it since I got it). My DVD/CDRW drive is:

    PHILIPS CDRW/DVD SCB5265
    GD2446R LNC232V SCSI CdRom Device

If you need any more specs on my computer, just ask!

EDIT - The one above won't burn DVD, I have found out, but this one will:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151132

And the others in that category, but will it fit in my computer?
