    MSN Messenger tweaks

How do I get rid of that blue bar on the left that is purely useless? Also, how do I remove the banner?

Getting rid of the tab pane:

    Tools --> Shows Tabs
    uncheck everything

    Getting rid of the banner?
Err, I don't see any in Windows Messenger for XP... but I do seem to remember one in MSN Messenger for Windows < XP...
Regardless of that, it would against the TOS to post any methods if they exist, since it is probably advertising revenue for Microsoft.

Use Trillian if you want to access the MSN im network, but don't like the program itself...

I don't like the program myself either. I use ICQ because of it's multi-functions. But I just use MSN Messenger as an e-mail checker since I don't know how to set up the e-mail checker in ICQ.

Use something like Outlook, or MSN Explorer.

    Easy.

I don't use Outlook because keeping my mails offline is not safe, I'm always messing around with mods and hacks, if something goes wrong, I will have to reformat and my offline stuff will go along.

MSN Explorer, I have to pay for that right? Wait... what exactly is MSN Explorer?

    What is Windows Messenger

I have all my personal stuff in other drives, if someone goes wrong, it will only be in C drive. So the trouble is when I have to reinstall the 70 programs.

The link above says that MSN Meseenger is not the same as Windows Messenger.

Another thing, how exactly do I close MSN? When I close it, it tells me that another program is using it. I have already shut down IE, and I don't use Outlook Express. So what other program can it be using that it's preventing me from shutting it down?

Does anyone know a site where I can learn how to write a plugin for msn. like logging when someone comes online, auomaticy log the conversations and stuff like that. I know these exists, like msn plus, but I want to do it myself. preferebly in C/C++.
I've looked for it, but couldn't find descent site.

    edit:
I'm not talkeing about a hack here, like when you can see if people have added you to there block list, nothing illegal and no violation of privacy.
this is what I want to do: when I'm away from my pc, I want to detect if a person comes online. and when he does and I have something to say to him, send a message (that I've typed before I went away). SO I'll have to detect every person that comes online and sent a message if nececery(sp?)

like logging when someone comes online, auomaticy log the conversations and stuff like that
For that, you might try, like others have mentioned, Trillian. It auto logs when people sign on/off, you can set it to auto log all of your conversastions, also. You can re-name people on your list to display them as you wish and all sorts of stuff. It is skinnable, and easy to modify. I even get the AOL guy saying 'You've got mail!' when I get an E-mail, heh. Recommended.
