    Best X2 heatsink/fan?

    Yo..

Next month I get the funding to build myself a new PC, along the lines of an AMD64 X2 4200+ with 2GB RAM. Now I gotta question. What's the most recommended heatsink for the X2 chip in terms of cooling effectivness and amount of noise that it produces? I know there'd be several few, just looking for one that's been recommended. I believe that where I'm getting the CPU from only see the OEM version w/o cooler.

    Jamie.

I have the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro on an Opteron 144 (but the HSF is rated up to "5000+" apparently so it would work on a 4200+ (they're s939?).

It's pretty quiet, cools well, and for the price (about £15-20 GBP), can't really be beaten.

If you have more to spend then have a look at the Zalman's which are supposedly pretty good although I don't have first hand experience of one.

Yeah the X2's a Socket 939. I was thinking that it'd probably a Zalman actually. I mean, I don't want to spend loads on a heatsink (got a few 300GB SATA disk to buy )
Does anyone have any advice on the "Speeze" range of heatsinks..are they any good? I haven't actually looked to see if they do a decent Socket 939 one.

How much did the Operton cost you? What kinda setup do you have?

    Cheers,

    Not heard of Speeze before.

Um, Opteron was about £100 I think (got it about a month ago, now everyone is after those 146's!).

I have the Opteron (overclocked by only 450Mhz at the moment due to the problems mentioned in the next paragraph!) 2Gb GeIL RAM, Sapphire GTO2 (unlocked and overclocked to X850 XT PE speeds), erm Epox EP9NPA mobo and 250Gb Maxtor SATA drive.

Been having a lot of problems though which I think is down to the RAM (BSOD's, crashes etc). Going to wait till after xmas then might have to get it RMA'ed.

Ah right. Speeze I heard are supposed to be pretty good - can't vouch for that though seeing as I haven't ever used one.

I've never trusted Maxtor hard disks...I would never buy one due to problems I've had with them in the past. A good ol' Seagate or Western Digital disk'll do me fine.
