    Unistalling AOL

Hello folks, wondering if anyone could please help me! I have recently unistalled AOL from my PC, everything went according to plan, until I noticed that since deleting AOL, I can no longer go onto specific webistes like Hotmail, or even my bank! Some webistes you can log onto however (Always the ones you dont give two hoots about!)

Is there ANYTHING any of you guys can think of to help? I really do want to re-install AOL as all it does it slows my whole PC down!

    Thanks in advance...

    Gary

Are you sure it's linked with AOL? How are you getting your internet now? When you say that you can't access certain websites, what is the actual error?

A bit of a shot in the dark here, but do you run Norton Antivirus? and if so, are you sure it is functioning correctly? My friend had (actually, still has) a problem, that causes Norton to stop him accessing https:// URLS. Hotmail/your bank would be https://. For him, it just fails to resolve the hostname... What problem are you having?

    Hey ya,

    Thanks for your input...

Been away a while, first chance to look on PC. It seems to be becuase I am using a netgear wireless modem, instead of the usual modem packaged with AOL, Its like AOL have done it on purpose or something! - But what the biggest mystery here is, WHY can I get onto sites (like this one for example) but others like Ebay, Amazon, Hotmail, Messenger, Banks I can't?? Its terribly frustrating, as these ARE the sites I want to get onto!! lol - Sods law ofcourse eh! lol

Any help would be really appreciated!

To be honest, if you can access some sites, I highly doubt that it is the modem setup, becuase AOL arent going to be selective over which sites you can visit depending on hardware, and I know people that run AOL through a router for multiple computers.

Did you check your firewall settings?

I had the same problem but it had nothing to do with AOL. I couldnt log into my yahoo account, hotmail account and several other sites. After getting pissed for awhile and trying to figure out things.. I realized that I wasnt logged on as the Administrator on my Norton Anti Virus. If you have that you may want to check that.. I dont think AOL would have anything to do with that. If you have any other firewall program that you have assigned permission, which means, you have checked a box saying "automatically log me in when returning to this site" or something like that.. you would want to make sure that you have not erased those sites off your trusted, or allowed list.. or may have bumped to your do not allow list. Thats all I can think of..
