    Home Networking

Hey all, I just set up my home network, and I was wondering if all is well security wise.

I have 3 computers, 2 of them desktops and one laptop. They are all connected to the internet and each other through a non-wireless router, and they are all sharing files just fine.

But I'm wondering, if I take my laptop to Starbucks or wherever and connect to their network wirelessly, will they too have access to my shared files, or not? How can I tell, and how can I fix it so that they do not have access if that's the case.

    Thanks in advance.

If you've setup a drive share on your laptop then yeah they will be able to access it to, unless you get a decent firewall and block people from accessing your computer in starbucks. If you remove the network share then they won't be able to get access to your stuff...

What I do is to only allow the IP addresses of the computers on my home LAN to access my laptop, then when I go to school, my firewall automatically blocks them because the IPs are automatically dished out by DHCP and are of a different range etc than I use at home.

Thanks. Clearly you know what you're talking about, but I'm having a hard time following. Could you dumb that down a bit? I simply used the "Set up a home or small office network" button in My Network Places on WinXP Pro SP2 so where you get all these options I do not know. Thanks again.
