Why are the keys on the keyboard arranged how they are?

in the olden days with type writers, having frequently used keys near each other causesd the heads (the bits thay hit the ribbon) to collide, as typists got quick. So to prevent them colliding they aren't located near each other, its how standards evolve like de-facto.
